The Heroin Diaries Vol. 3

After finishing the last portion of the book, I was really sad. I really enjoyed this book, and hearing Nikki Sixx's story from his point of view. He basically described every horrid thing in his life that happened to him, in detail. It would take a lot for anybody to share those things. The hardest part for me to read was when he went into detail about his overdose. It's sad reading about the pain he had to go through to finally realize that he needed to stop his battle and addiction with drugs. His out of body experience I think is what finally made him realize that he needed to step back, and look at the bigger picture of life, and why he was actually living. After his overdose, though, it was crazy to me on how he took one last shoot up. He says, "I woke up the next morning, with a needle still in my arm and blood on my hand" (390). He finally got help after that, but it's hard to actually believe and see he went back to the thing that killed him in the first place, right after he died.
As for Nikki now, he's definitely in a better place. He's a great father and husband, hosts a radio show, writes books, continues to write and produce music, and even pursues photography. After a year that was literally a living hell, and then battling an addiction that was on and off for a long time, Nikki finally got the big break that he needed and is now completely sober. Honestly, I didn't think that was something that he would be able to accomplish. A lot of people didn't think he was able to get sober, or stay sober. That's definitely one of his biggest accomplishments in life.
Although I'm sad the time with the Heroin Diaries has come to an end, it's good that Nikki is finally over his addiction and doesn't have much more to tell about his addiction. He really is one of the best music producers, and inspirational people in the rock n' roll world.

  1. I completely agree this was a bomb ass book and probably one of the best I have read, given I do not read at all. It would take so much strength to release the stories to the public and all of the people who looked up to him and still do. He did so because he knew there was a bigger picture and he was in a position to say something and provide insight to a lot of people about what he and millions of other people are going through. To your point of him finally realizing he needed help, it is so surprising to me how it took that long for him to wake up from that hellish night mare. The book to me was just so incredible he was so open about his life and the mistakes he made so that other people could learn from his.
